The whip finish, is it really so hard. Well, yes it bloody is! I bought a whip finish tool (turns out its a Thompson style one – who new there were different types!) because I thought that would make it easier but, it didn’t.

I even resorted to my own funny kind of knot and a dab of glue to tie off my flies but it didn’t aways work very well, especially on flies that weren’t going to be covered in a nice protective shell of varnish.

But then one day I found Buck! Buck manages to show a really easy way to do the whip finish by hand that has now transformed my tying. I’m bound to forget after a few days so here is the video for reference.
